My First Cake

I’d love to say everything I touch baking-wise turns to confectionary gold. But that couldn’t be further from the truth. I think it’s easy to build a rosy impression of a person based on his/her online self. Most of us tend to put only our best foot forward on the Internet.

Yup, not everything I bake comes out looking picture-perfect. I’ll even admit I’ve even received some help from Mr. Photoshop. I’ve had my share of burnt cookies, sunken cakes and soggy pies, more so when I started out six years ago.

Anyway, I thought I’d just share a picture of the first cake I ever baked, so click on if you want to see it.

Taken with my ol’ 4-megapixel camera, that picture looks like a still out of a horror movie. It’s the mother of all cake cracks. It looks like an alien had just clawed its way out of it.

But yeah, that’s my first cake. And I think I even made it from *shudder* a box cake mix. Thank goodness for frosting. I slathered that deformed excuse for a cake with tons of chocolate frosting (pre-made as well) and I think it turned out okay.

We all gotta start somewhere, don’t we?
