Basics #3: My, How Dishy.

Have a little streak of OCD in you? I know I do. If you’re like me, you’d want every portion of cookie dough or muffin batter to be absolutely uniform. Short of weighing out each portion (which is a little too OCD even for me), your best bet would be to get some dishers.

A pair of dishers“Aren’t those ice cream scoops?” you may ask. Well, yes, they are. But I call them dishers. (Toe-may-toe, toe-mah-toe.) They do so much more than just scoop ice cream.

What you’re getting with a disher is a perfect portioning tool. A 35mm disher makes perfect balls of cookie dough for baking. And a 56mm one scoops just the right amount of batter for each muffin cup.

Consistent portions help ensure that each cookie or muffin will be done at the same time, i.e., reduced chances of raw/burnt bits. Also, dishers make baking a much less messier affair (read: less washing up), which is always a big plus in my book.

And of course, you can always use dishers to scoop ice cream.
